Smarty keeps things simple in a lot of ways, including that it just offers one unlimited data plan, so there’s nothing to choose from there.
This unlimited data SIM Only deal is a rolling 1-month plan, so you’re free to cancel any time or change to different allowances any time – if for example you decide you don’t need your data to be unlimited.
This plan also comes with unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, 5G support, and some extras, like Wi-Fi Calling, tethering, and inclusive EU roaming.
The fact that Smarty’s unlimited data plan is just 30 days long means it’s a lot more flexible than some unlimited data deals, giving you the freedom to change or cancel the plan any time you want. This also means that there’s no risk of being forced to accept an annual price rise as part of a contract, which is a danger on longer plans offered by some other networks.
And speaking of prices, Smarty is also very affordably priced, undercutting the majority of other networks. So it’s excellent value and a great choice if you’re looking for an unlimited data bargain.
Plus, there are no credit checks on Smarty, and the network is owned and operated by the same company as Three, so it has the same 5G and 4G coverage. It should also offer similar 5G speeds, and that’s great news, because numerous third-party tests – including a 2023 Opensignal report and a 2023 RootMetrics one – suggest that Three’s 5G is on average faster than EE’s, Vodafone’s, or O2’s.
Smarty’s unlimited data plan really is unlimited in the UK, meaning you can use data to your heart’s content with no fair usage limits or speed restrictions – other than a requirement that you’re only using the network for personal use. A lot of networks do have fair usage limits, so this is another way in which Smarty stands out from the crowd.
When roaming in the EU, Smarty does have a fair usage limit of 12GB per month – but you can at least use your data allowance up to that level at no extra cost, which is something that not all networks allow.
Yes, you can tether on Smarty and if you have an unlimited data plan then there’s no limit to the amount of data you can use when doing so.
That means you can broadcast a Wi-Fi network using your phone’s mobile data, allowing you to get laptops, tablets, and other Wi-Fi reliant gadgets online wherever you are – and with 5G speeds if you’re in an area with 5G coverage.
Smarty’s plans all include free roaming in the EU, but there’s a fair usage limit of 12GB per month when roaming, so you can’t use an unlimited amount of data abroad.
However, the vast majority of networks have a fair usage limit when roaming, so this isn’t unusual.
Smarty doesn’t offer any Pay As You Go bundles, but given that its SIM Only plans last just 30 days and there are no credit checks, buying one of these plans is very similar to buying a Pay As You Go bundle anyway (just be aware that it will automatically renew if you don’t cancel it).
Smarty’s unlimited data SIM Only plan is also very competitively priced, so if you were hoping to Pay As You Go in order to save money then it’s suitable on that front too.
Yes, along with Smarty you can also get unlimited data on Three, EE, O2, Vodafone, Asda Mobile, Giffgaff, iD Mobile, Lebara, Lyca Mobile, Tesco Mobile, Talkmobile, and VOXI.
