SIM Only deals can be a lot cheaper than getting a new phone on contract, and these deals are proof of that – at £5 or less these are the very cheapest SIM Only deals you can get. Yet in some cases you still get a lot with them, including 5G and generous allowances.
Currently, the networks that offer SIM Only deals for £5 or less are Three, Asda Mobile, Lebara, Lyca Mobile, Spusu, Talk Home, and Talkmobile.
All the other networks SIM only deals start at a higher price than £5 a month, including 1pMobile, EE, GiffGaff, Honest Mobile, iD Mobile, O2, ParentShield, Sky Mobile, Smarty, Tesco Mobile, Vodafone, and VOXI.
Lyca Mobile currently has a great value deal charging just £2.50 for the first month. This is a on 1-month rolling contract and it comes with 5GB of 5G data, 1,000 minutes and texts, and switches to £5 a month after the first month.
If you are willing to spend a little more in the long term, we'd also recommend Talkmobile's 100GB data deal, which is half price for the first 3 months at £5. However, that'll rise to £10 for the other 9 months of the 12-month contract.
If you want the most possible data without ever going above £5 a month then you might want to consider Spusu’s 5GB deal. This costs just £4.90 a month and it’s a monthly rolling plan, so there’s no commitment.
SIM Only plans have a lot of advantages to them. For one thing, they’re typically the cheapest type of plan – and these deals in particular are extremely affordable.
For another, they’re often short-term, so you’re only tied in for 30 days in many cases, rather than having to commit for two years as you do with most handset plans.
Most people will need a nano SIM, as these are used by the vast majority of remotely recent phones. However, your network will send you all three possible sizes, so you can simply select the one that fits your phone.
Some networks also support eSIMs, and if you want one of these you can – in some cases – select one at checkout, or you can contact the network later to switch to eSIM. However, your phone will almost certainly have a physical SIM card slot too, so only choose an eSIM if you specifically want that.
Yes, 5G now comes as standard on most networks, and currently you can get 5G SIM only deals for £5 or less on Three, Asda Mobile, Lyca Mobile, Lebara, Spusu, Talk Home, and Talkmobile.
Yes, some networks offer SIM only plans with no credit check, especially on cheap plans like these. To be sure you won’t be credit checked, select the ‘no contract’ filter on the contract length dropdown above. Some contracted plans may also not have credit checks though, so take a look at the small print of the plan you’re interested in.
