A 30 day SIM deal is simply a SIM only plan that lasts just 30 days. But it’s a rolling 30 day plan, so every 30 days you’ll automatically be charged and automatically get a new batch of minutes, texts, and data.
So in that sense it’s like any other SIM only plan, except where many such plans tie you in for a year or more, a 30 day deal gives you the freedom to change or cancel your plan basically whenever you want.
30 day SIM only deals give you the ultimate flexibility, as you’re essentially not tied into a contract since you can cancel or change your plan every 30 days. So if a better SIM only deal comes up or a shiny new handset launches, you’re not tied in – you can get that new deal or move to a phone contract. The lack of a contract also means you often don’t have to go through a credit check to get a 30 day SIM deal.
Also, SIM deals are almost always cheaper than a plan that comes with a phone, since you’re not paying for the phone as well. That means prices on 30 day SIM deals tend to be low – though they’re often lower still on a longer SIM only contract.
Many networks offer 30 day SIM deals and you can see the current options above – that will be your best source as the offerings may change over time and the deals above are always up to date, but at the time of writing networks including EE, Three, Vodafone, O2, iD Mobile, Plusnet Mobile, Smarty Mobile, Talkmobile, and Virgin Mobile all offer 30 day SIM deals.
The latest unlimited data offers can be seen above (just filter the data amount to ‘Unlimited’ to only see those deals), but at the time of writing you can get unlimited data on a 30 day SIM deal with Three, Vodafone, iD Mobile, and Smarty Mobile.
At the time of writing both Three and Vodafone offer 30 day SIM deals with 5G. That’s sure to change over time though, so tick the 5G box above to view all the latest options.
UK networks typically now supply a SIM card that contains all possible sizes in one (often called a combi SIM, multi SIM or trio SIM), so you don’t need to know your SIM card size when ordering a 30 day SIM deal.
Once your SIM card arrives, you can simply compare the three possible sizes (standard, micro and nano) to the slot in your phone and pop out the appropriate size.
All that said, in almost all cases it will be a nano SIM card (the smallest size) that you need. The other two sizes are mostly only used for quite old smartphones.
The good news with 30 day SIM plans is that there’s no commitment, so the choice of which network to go with isn’t as important as most other plan types – since you can always change network if you don’t get on with it.
But you should consider the coverage, how much data you get on a plan, whether 5G is available, how much the plan costs, and what – if any – extras you get with the plan. You might not care about all of those things, but make sure to consider the things that are important to you. More details about most of those things can be found above and elsewhere on this site.
Yes, and doing so is easy. If you’re moving from another plan on the same network then your number should automatically come with you, while if you’re changing network it’s a simple case of getting your PAC code off your old network and giving it to your new one.
The easiest way to request your PAC code is to text ‘PAC’ to 65075, from the number that you want to keep, but for full instructions, check out our how to get a PAC code from your network guide.
