ZTE isn’t a huge name in mobile, at least not in the UK, but it’s starting to make a name for itself thanks to high-quality low-cost handsets.
And it is big abroad, particularly in its home country of China, where it’s been working on telecommunications and networking since 1985.
ZTE stands out for many of the same reasons as Huawei – namely a commitment to making quality devices at surprisingly low prices.
Its flagships have the style and power to compete with the likes of the iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S7, yet they’re typically a lot more affordable, while its low-end and mid-range handsets are often real bargains.
ZTE also tends to use premium materials, even in its lower end devices, with slim metal designs not uncommon.
You’ll also sometimes find real standout features in ZTE’s phones, like good speakers, lots of internal storage and QHD screens.
The ZTE Axon 7 is the company’s latest flagship, and it’s seriously impressive, with a 5.5-inch 1440 x 2560 screen, a metal body, dual front-facing speakers, 4GB of RAM and a powerful Snapdragon 820 chipset.
