With its flexible 30-day plans, VOXI has long been a great choice if you don’t want to be tied into a long commitment, but now the network has launched eSIMs, which makes it even more ideal for short-term use, as you can get up and running in as little as ten minutes.
eSIMs, if you’re unfamiliar, are embedded SIM cards, meaning they’re already built into your phone (if you have a compatible handset), so you just need to sign up for a VOXI plan online and then scan the QR code the network sends you. There’s no need to wait for a physical SIM card to arrive in the post, and it’s greener because of that and because these are plastic-free.
Beyond the speed and simplicity of getting up and running, eSIMs have other potential perks such as leaving more space for other components in the phone, making smartphones less desirable targets of theft, and making it easier to sign up for additional networks (such as a travel eSIM) alongside your main one.
So they’re a handy feature, and VOXI has joined the growing ranks of networks that support eSIMs, with other options including the likes of EE, O2, Three, Vodafone, Giffgaff, iD Mobile, Tesco Mobile, and others.
Scott Currie, Head of VOXI, said: “We’re delighted to launch eSIM on VOXI Mobile to make getting online even easier, with network access in as little as 10 minutes.
“Not only is eSIM friendlier to the planet but, coupled with our market-leading propositions, the introduction underscores our ongoing commitment to providing young people with the freedom to access content and channels that they love.”
Widely supported and easy to access
If your phone supports eSIM then it should probably work with VOXI’s network, but VOXI has an eSIM support page listing the handsets that definitely work. These include all recent iPhones, lots of Samsung and Google Pixel handsets, and a variety of others.
If you’re signing up for a new SIM Only plan on VOXI then you can select an eSIM at checkout, while existing customers can switch to eSIM by heading to the ‘eSIM’ option in their online account.
Note however that for whatever reason, VOXI states its eSIMs are only available when purchasing SIM Only plans – not in conjunction with a handset device. It’s not clear from the wording whether you can later switch to an eSIM if you buy a handset from VOXI, so you should check with the network directly if that’s a concern.
