Not everyone has been aware that Three offer their “Ultrafast” network as an alternative to 4G. To remedy the situation Three are undertaking a new advertising push to promote their service, and have guaranteed to add 4G when available later in the year, AT NO EXTRA COST!
Ultrafast gives double the performance of existing 3G networks using Three's DC-HSDPA network (Ultrafast) which offers almost 4G speeds under real working conditions. Ultrafast currently covers 50% of the country, rising to 80% in a few months.
Three have said that 4G will be added to all new and existing Ultrafast contracts by the end of the year at no additional cost.
Three already owns some 1800 MHz spectrum but can’t use it until September. It therefore makes sense for consumers to use Ultrafast on Three’s DC-HSDPA network until then, and switch free of charge to 4G LTE on the 1800 MHz spectrum, thus enjoying high speed connectivity without the wait.
Three currently offer a number of "Ultrafast" ready devices. These include the iPhone 5, Sony Xperia Z, Nokia Lumia 920, and the Apple iPad.
In the next month they will also add the Samsung Galaxy SIII, Galaxy Note 2 and the Blackberry Z10 to the range. All of these devices currently support Ultrafast and are 4G LTE-ready so buy now and be assured of a degree of future-proofing.
Currently Three offer unlimited data on most of their contracts. We can’t know for sure but feel that this may be charged at a small premium when the full switch to 4G takes place. More news on this when we get it.
