Battery life is one of the biggest problems faced by smartphones and with people consuming ever more media on their devices it’s not a problem which is likely to be solved any time soon.
But EE is offering all its customers a handy workaround, as now you can get a free EE Power Bar, which is a portable smartphone charger with enough juice to give most smartphones one full charge.
To get one simply text ‘POWER’ to 365. That text will cost 35p and you’ll receive a code which can be redeemed at any EE store across the UK for a Power Bar.
Better yet, while the EE Power Bar can be recharged that’s not much use if it runs out of juice while you’re out and about, so EE will also allow you to swap your dead Power Bar for a fully charged one at any EE store, as often as you want. So as long as you’re near an EE store you theoretically never need to worry about your smartphones battery life again.
EE has found that video streaming and social media now account for over 50 percent of all data use on its network- likely driven in large part by the growth of 4G.
Because of this heavy use nearly 60 percent of UK smartphone users claim their battery doesn’t last a full day, while over half of all smartphone users reportedly wish there were more ways to charge their phone in public places, with that figure rising to over 70 percent amongst 18-24 year olds.
So the EE Power Bar is a solution to that. Portable chargers have been around for a long time but the ability to swap a dead one for a fully charged one has never been an option and as it’s free EE’s Power Bar is accessible to all.
Or almost all anyway. You do of course have to be an EE customer to get it for free and more specifically you have to be on a 30 day or 12, 18 or 24 month plan for mobile or fixed line and broadband, while pay as you go customers are also eligible, but only if they’ve been a customer for at least three months.
Surprisingly the service is also open to non-EE customers, but rather than being free it will cost £20.
Pippa Dunn, Chief Marketing Officer EE, said: “Almost everyone’s experienced the frustration associated with running out of battery and it always seems to happen when you need your phone the most. With EE Power, we’re trying to help by giving our customers a Power Bar that can simply be swapped for a fully charged one at any of our stores, at any time, for free.”
The promotion is launching in the coming weeks and will be available to small business and corporate customers too. Each Power Bar has a 2600 mAh capacity, a guaranteed life of 500 charges and includes a charging indicator light, an LED torch and a micro USB cable.
