South Shropshire is one of a number of areas in the UK with subpar mobile coverage, particularly when it comes to newer network technologies like 4G, but things are rapidly improving, and Bridgnorth is the latest town to benefit.
Vodafone has just switched on its 4G network in the area, bringing superfast speeds to residents and visitors, so they can browse the net, stream music and video and work online, even when there’s no Wi-Fi available.
According to the Shropshire Star, which broke the news, no other mobile network offers 4G in Bridgnorth, but that’s at odds with the mobile network’s websites, which claim that EE and Three both have solid outdoor coverage, while O2 has partial coverage.
Regardless, Vodafone’s coverage in the town appears to be far more comprehensive, with a reliable signal promised both indoors and outdoors.
Speaking to the Shropshire Star, Philip Dunne, MP for Ludlow (whose constituency covers Bridgnorth), said:
“The rollout of Vodafone’s 4G services to Bridgnorth is a welcome step for local residents and businesses.
“We should start to see further improvements across the Ludlow Constituency, as the Government signed a landmark deal with the four main mobile networks to invest £5 billion in the UK communications network, guaranteeing 90 percent of the UK’s landmass will have mobile reception by 2017.
“Alongside other programmes, this will ensure that 98 percent of people will be able to get 4G mobile coverage by 2017.”
Vodafone’s 4G coverage has come on leaps and bounds since its launch, with over 85% of the UK population now able to get a 4G signal, across over 860 large towns, cities and districts, as well as thousands of smaller communities, such as Bridgnorth. Other places to recently get upgraded to Vodafone 4G include Bletchley, Dursley and Blyth.
