Residents in Bolton’s Astley Bridge can look forward to faster 4G mobile speeds and services, thanks to EE upgrading a phone mast in the area.
The Bolton News reports that EE recently upgraded a site in the Astley Bridge area, to give local customers access to 4G.
EE’s online coverage checker is showing Astley Bridge as now offering 4G coverage for internet, calls and texts. Those with a 4G-compatible phone should be seeing the benefits of the enhanced coverage already.
The move comes amid an EE initiative to upgrade 600 sites across the UK to 4G. The company says the work will enable customers, such as those in Astley Bridge, to work on the go as well as share social media files and videos faster.
Discussing this broader upgrade programme in September last year, Marc Allera, EE CEO, said people need to be on 4G in order to get the best from their devices and to get the clearest phone calls and fastest data speeds.
EE, which is part of the BT Group, has the biggest 4G network in the UK, with coverage for over 99% of the population and 86% of the UK’s geography. All plans from EE include 4G at no additional cost. EE is also the UK’s fastest mobile network, delivering average download speeds of 28.80Mbps, according to OpenSignal's mobile network update in September 2017.
EE also offers tethering, Wi-Fi Calling, VoLTE and roaming beyond the EU on selected plans. However, costs can be higher than other networks and it doesn’t always provide all the same features as its counterparts – EE doesn’t offer data rollover or unlimited data allowances, for example.
The Bolton News report notes that people using ASDA Mobile, Virgin Mobile and BT Mobile services will also see their speeds improve following the mast upgrade.
