Aldingham has a population of less than 2,000, but it’s not being neglected by O2, as the network has started improvement works in the area with the goal of switching on 4G in the next few weeks.
According to The Mail, upgrade works started on Monday 27th and will also lead to improvements in 2G and 3G coverage.
The upgrade to 4G should make any web-based activity a lot faster when there’s no Wi-Fi available, allowing O2 customers to seamlessly stream videos and music, quickly download apps and browse the net, as well as staying in touch via email, social media and even video calls, and working on the move.
Derek McManus, chief operating officer for Telefónica UK, said: "I’m delighted that O2 customers in Aldingham will soon be able to experience faster mobile internet making everything easier when using their phone or tablet."
It should be a big improvement then, and one which should help O2 catch up with or potentially even overtake rivals in the area, as EE and Vodafone both already offer 4G coverage in Aldingham, but while they report good outdoor coverage, inside it’s variable, so hopefully O2’s work will lead to a better signal in homes and offices.
In any case, it should offer far better coverage in Aldingham than Three, which currently has no 4G coverage in the area.
This is just the latest in a long line of locations to get an O2 4G upgrade. Other recent locations include big chunks of Norfolk, plus Porlock, and O2 is also soon going to have 4G coverage in Aldeburgh.
In total the network has over 97% UK population coverage outdoors and with upgrade works like these that figure is sure to creep ever closer to 100%.
