US : Verizon Wireless has embarked on a 3G LTE drive with the opening of two new facilities. Verizon has opened its 3G LTE Innovation Centre in Boston and a virtual 3G LTE Innovation Centre which can be accessed by via an online portal.
The 3G LTE Innovation Centre will act as a “think-tank” seeking out to find 3G LTE devices that can communicate with machines and people wirelessly. Additionally, the Centre will offer tools and support into those areas not normally associated primarily with the telecoms industry.
These sectors are seen as security, telematics, healthcare and consumer appliances. In this way Verizon expect to help facilitate the adoption of 3G LTE devices and machines into the various industry sectors which otherwise may not have been introduced for some time.
Verizon’s partners will be able to access the lab within 3G LTE Innovation Centre and use its extensive development and testing facilities.
The company previously announced that the physical LTE Innovation Center - comprised of the lab and experience center - will be located in the Boston suburb of Waltham, Mass. The experience center of the LTE Innovation Center is anticipated to open in the first half of 2010.
"The Innovation Center is designed to drive innovation and help foster creative solutions using LTE technology, which in turn will help in building a broad ecosystem of devices in tandem with the aggressive deployment of Verizon Wireless' 4G network. Establishing a strong virtual presence will significantly enhance our ability to nurture a greater number of ideas than would be possible solely through our dedicated lab facility." Said Roger Gurnani of Verizon Wireless,
At its virtual home (www.lte.vzw.com), device developers can get information about:
